Kiln Firing Schedule
Our kiln fires regularly to keep the pottery work flowing in the Idea Lab. Kiln firings usually take 10 – 12 hours, and another 4 – 5 hours to cool down once they’re finished before it is safe to unload.
Any ceramic piece may be fired in the kiln. Kiln firings are free! Pieces can be dropped off in the Idea Lab during normal hours (view the Idea Lab’s hours).
We primarily work with mid-fire stoneware, so the kiln will regularly fire to the following temperatures to suit this clay body: Bisque Fires – Cone 05 (1888 degrees) | Glaze Fires – Cone 6 (2232 degrees).
If you are using any clay or glaze that was not purchased in the Idea Lab, it is your responsibility to denote at what temperature your piece(s) should be fired.
If you have any questions, please call the Idea Lab at 270.782.0252.
Most pottery items take 4-6 days to completely dry out before being ready for a bisque firing.
For the safety of your piece, it will not be fired if it is not completely dry throughout.
