Dark Comedy Films or What the Heck Did I Just Watch? from Eric
All of these titles and more are available through Hoopla
Housebound: A young woman is placed under house arrest in her childhood home. A series of uncanny experiences lead her to believe the house is haunted by a great evil. The truth is perhaps more disturbing.
John Dies at the End: After experimenting with a strange new drug known as Soy Sauce, college drop-outs Dave and John find themselves in the unlikely roles of heroes trying to save the world from an otherworldly invasion. This film is filled with bewildering twists and distressing developments right up until the end.
What We Do in the Shadows: Mockumentary style tale about a group of vampires who have lived together for hundreds of years trying to fit into the modern world. Daylight and crucifixes are one thing, but rent and the chore wheel might be as bad. Or worse. (Also available on Kanopy)
Brazil: If you love the antics and offbeat humor of Monty Python but wish there was more dystopian tragi-comedy, appalling characters, and unsettling visuals then you will appreciate this 1985 film from Python alum Terry Gilliam. Terrorism, a bureaucratic police state, mistaken identity, and a love story of sorts will keep you guessing and unnerved throughout.
